FC Bayern continues its DFB Cup campaign on Wednesday evening. In the second round, the German record champions will host 1. FC Magdeburg at the Allianz Arena. Kickoff is at 8:45 p.m.
The Munich side enters the matchup against the second-division club as the clear favorite. Most recently, Bayern secured a 3-1 victory over SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga. Aaron Danks will once again take charge on the bench against Magdeburg. Vincent Kompany remains sidelined and is expected to be out for several more weeks.
There’s also a question mark over whether Manuel Neuer will play. The Bayern captain is dealing with a mild tendon irritation in his foot. Danks said ahead of the match: “I’m not entirely sure. He has a mild irritation in his foot. It depends on how long it takes for that to subside. Right now, it might be a bit uncomfortable for him, but I don’t think it will take too long.”
Should Neuer be sidelined again, Jonas Urbig is likely to step in between the posts. The 23-year-old recently filled in for his captain during the away win in Freiburg, where he put in a strong performance.
