FC Bayern is currently facing some adversity. Joshua Kimmich has had to sit out due to a death in the family. There have been several injuries recently, and Vincent Kompany’s collapse also left the team in shock.
And despite these circumstances, the record champions managed to win 3-1 in Freiburg, putting on an excellent performance for much of the game. Max Eberl was understandably delighted following the tough match against Freiburg and lavished praise on the team.
Goals by Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry, and Michael Olise propelled the team back to the top of the Bundesliga standings. Ahead of the next big match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday (6:30 p.m.), FC Bayern is thus in a comfortable position.
Laimer: “We’ll keep going our way now”
After the game, Bayern star Konrad Laimer spoke with DAZN and expressed broad satisfaction with the performance, putting Freiburg’s period of pressure into perspective.
“We knew it would be a tough battle. Freiburg is a good team. I think we could have made it 3-0, maybe a little earlier. We had the chances, but sometimes we didn’t make the most of them, and then they got back into the game with the 2–1. The stadium was cheering them on, and the team stepped it up a notch,” explained the Austrian.
Nevertheless, Bayern had one more answer in the end and weathered the pressure with a lot of commitment and passion.
Afterward, Laimer was asked about how Bayern’s current situation—with all the injuries—isn’t exactly easy.
“The coaching staff and the entire team have done an outstanding job this week—kudos to them. As part of the team, I’d also like to say a big thank you to everyone involved here. I hope that everyone here takes the time they need, and then I hope we’ll all be back together again soon. We stand together, we’ll stay together, and we’ll keep moving forward,” Laimer said, emphasizing the unity at FC Bayern.
