On Wednesday evening, FC Bayern Munich will take the field at home in the Allianz Arena against 1. FC Magdeburg. This second-round match in the DFB Cup is crucial for the record champions—they can’t afford to slip up.
The personnel situation at FC Bayern is quite complicated at the moment. In addition to head coach Vincent Kompany, the FCB was missing seven players over the weekend, including key figures like Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich.
This made their performance in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over SC Freiburg all the more impressive. Bayern dominated for long stretches, played with intensity, and won numerous duels.
The club officials were understandably pleased. Max Eberl noted that these three points meant more than just a simple victory.
Kimmich will also miss the match against Magdeburg
Ahead of the match against 1. FC Magdeburg, the question naturally arises as to whether any of the record champions’ players will be available again. There is hope for Aleksandar Pavlović and Minjae Kim, who were sidelined with minor injuries. They are working toward their return and trained individually on Monday.

The situation is different, however, for Joshua Kimmich, who missed the last two games against Arsenal and SC Freiburg due to a death in the family.
As reported by *kicker*, Kimmich will still be unavailable for the Cup match against the second-division team. He is expected to rejoin the team afterward. He would then also be a candidate to play in Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash against Borussia Dortmund. However, the decision is deliberately being left up to the player.
Should Kimmich still not play in that match, the team can expect to field the double-6 pairing of Tom Bischof and Pavlovic, whose absence against Freiburg was a precautionary measure.
As for Jamal Musiala, it remains unclear at this point whether he’ll be ready for playing time against BVB. The attacking maestro has not yet participated in team training. However, the clear plan is for him to get some playing time before the international matches in November.
