It remains unclear whether Vincent Kompany will be on the Bayern bench for the Champions League match against Arsenal. The decision will be made later today.
With just a few hours to go before Bayern Munich’s Champions League showdown against Arsenal, uncertainty continues to surround Vincent Kompany. The 40-year-old is still dealing with health issues.
According to information from BR, it has not yet been decided whether Kompany will be on the bench at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening.
A decision is expected to be made later today and will depend on how the Bayern coach’s health progresses.
The Belgian continues to battle a viral infection. Kompany was already significantly limited during the 6-1 win over RB Leipzig and spent much of the match on the bench.
Decision on Kompany Won’t Be Made Until Match Day
It was also evident on Tuesday that the Bayern coach has not yet fully recovered. Kompany was absent from both the final training session and the press conference ahead of the match against Arsenal.
Instead, assistant coach Aaron Danks addressed the media and provided an update on his boss’s condition.
“Vincent has a viral infection. It’s important that he gets some rest. We’re constantly evaluating the situation and will see how he’s doing tomorrow,” Danks explained.

Despite his health issues, Kompany remains closely involved in match preparations. “We communicate a lot. He’s providing his input; as for whether he’ll be able to be at the Allianz Arena tomorrow, we’ll see tomorrow,” said the Englishman.
This means it will remain unclear until just a few hours before kickoff whether Kompany will be able to take his place on the Bayern bench in person.
Should the head coach indeed be unable to attend, FC Bayern is prepared for this situation. Danks had already taken on a large part of the active coaching duties on the sidelines against Leipzig.
“For me, not much changes. We’re a strong coaching staff; we have our processes. We need to keep the players’ energy high so they’re ready tomorrow,” the assistant coach explained.
The final decision is now expected to be made sometime on Wednesday. The only deciding factor will be how Kompany feels health-wise.
