FC Bayern is apparently keeping an eye on one of Europe’s most sought-after talents. The Munich club has inquired about Man United prospect JJ Gabriel.
FC Bayern continues to keep its eyes open on the international talent market. With Joseph Junior Andreou Gabriel—better known as JJ Gabriel—one of England’s greatest offensive talents has apparently caught the Munich club’s attention.
According to information from The Athletic, Bayern, along with Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain, are all vying for the 15-year-old Manchester United winger.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirms the interest and reports that the Munich club has already made several calls to inquire about Gabriel’s current situation. However, Bayern’s pursuit has not yet taken a more concrete form.
The youngster has been turning heads in Manchester United’s youth system for quite some time. Last season, Gabriel was named the best player in the English U18 league—the youngest player ever to receive the honor.
Now, his time with the Red Devils could come to a surprisingly early end.
Gabriel apparently wants to leave Manchester United
According to The Athletic, Gabriel has asked to be allowed to leave Manchester United. The 15-year-old is reportedly seeking to terminate his contract so he can join a new club on a free transfer.
The timing is particularly striking. United reportedly planned to call up Gabriel to the first-team squad for the first time on Wednesday in the cup match against Brighton & Hove Albion. An appearance could impact his chances of a last-minute transfer. However, Gabriel is said to have made it clear in response “that he would rather leave.”
It remains unclear exactly why the highly talented attacking player is apparently seeking a departure. This past summer, United signed 18-year-old Tynan Thompson, another player for their offense. In addition, 16-year-old Isaac Konde of Liverpool FC is reportedly set to move to Manchester.
In any case, Gabriel is unlikely to lack suitors. Real Madrid, in particular, is said to be working intensively on a deal and, according to The Athletic, is in a strong position. In addition to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Barcelona and PSG are also reportedly interested in the winger.
In principle, a move abroad would be possible for Gabriel once he turns 16. His father, Joe O’Cearuill, played two international matches for Ireland, and his mother has Cypriot roots. With the appropriate EU passport, a transfer to a club outside of England could become possible.
At FC Bayern, the matter is apparently still in the early stages. However, the fact that the Munich club has already gathered information shows that Gabriel is on the record champion’s radar. The competition for the Man United gem, however, could hardly be fiercer.
