Things are going well on the field for FC Bayern. Following their 5-0 victory over Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League, the Munich team followed up with a hard-fought 2-1 win at SV Elversberg. With Oktoberfest just around the corner, however, a topic off the field is now sparking plenty of discussion.
The record champions, together with adidas, have unveiled their new Oktoberfest jersey for 2026. But instead of anticipation for the special jersey, social media is flooded with criticism. The official Bayern Instagram post is filled with numerous negative comments about the unusual design.
“It’s awful—I don’t like it at all. The worst jersey ever,” wrote one fan, among others. Another supporter, who said he liked the previous Oktoberfest jerseys, commented: “I’ve always been a fan of the Oktoberfest jerseys, but with all due respect, what on earth is that?”
Bayern had gone to great lengths to present the new jersey. The photos were taken at locations including the Hackerbrücke and in front of the Bavaria statue at the Theresienwiese.
Fans are taking a while to warm up to the colorful design
The focus of the criticism is primarily the unusual look. The jersey features a colorful floral pattern on a dark background. Traditional floral motifs are meant to be given a modern twist.
Added to this are the white Telekom logo, the adidas Originals trefoil logo, and the official Oktoberfest logo on the back of the neck. A special round FC Bayern Wiesn emblem was also designed, which appears throughout the entire Oktoberfest collection.
According to the club, the bold colors are meant to represent “joie de vivre, community, and diversity.” However, this idea doesn’t seem to be resonating with many fans.
At least the special crest has found some supporters even among the critics. “The crest is cool… but that’s about it!” reads one of the comments.
The fans aren’t entirely in agreement, though. Amid the many critical voices, there are also positive reactions. “Beautiful jersey. I love it,” writes one fan, for example.
The season opener against Union Berlin is coming up
It’s not entirely surprising that the design is polarizing. Even before the official unveiling, images of the alleged jersey had surfaced online and sparked controversial reactions.
It’s now official that Bayern will indeed take the field in this look. The Oktoberfest jersey will make its competitive debut as early as this coming Friday. During the Bundesliga home game against Union Berlin on September 18, Vincent Kompany’s team will wear the special jersey on the field for the first time.
Until then, Bayern fans still have a few days to get used to the eye-catching design. However, initial reactions make it clear: The 2026 Oktoberfest jersey is likely to be one of the most controversial Bayern jerseys in recent years.
