Michael Olise is one of FC Bayern’s most valuable players and remains under contract with the German record champions through 2029. His contract does not include a buyout clause. Nevertheless, the Frenchman’s long-term future continues to spark debate. Now, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has fueled new speculation with a remarkable statement.
First, Dreesen addressed a rumor from last summer’s transfer window during an appearance on “Doppelpass.” He clarified that there were by no means numerous concrete offers for the star forward.
“It was nonsense to say that we had dozens of offers on the table this past summer. That simply wasn’t true.”
Accordingly, Bayern didn’t have to deal with any concrete sale scenarios during the recent transfer window. Nevertheless, club officials are aware that the situation could change as early as next summer.
Real Madrid and Liverpool FC have recently been repeatedly mentioned as potential suitors. Should Olise continue to perform at this level, the 24-year-old is likely to remain on the wish lists of numerous European heavyweights in the future.
Dreesen avoids making any guarantees about Olise
It is precisely against this backdrop that another statement from the Bayern boss is drawing attention. Dreesen did not want to commit to a long-term guarantee that the Frenchman would stay. “Making promises in this business is a tricky business,” explained the 59-year-old.
Even more interesting, however, was his subsequent remark: “Whether we’ll be able to keep him long-term—we’ll revisit that next summer.”
This statement is particularly noteworthy given Olise’s contract situation. Even after the current season, the winger would still be under contract with FC Bayern for two more years. Without a buyout clause, the Munich club is generally in a strong negotiating position.
Dreesen’s words should therefore by no means be interpreted as a signal that the club intends to sell him. They do, however, indicate that club officials are apparently also considering a scenario in which, for the first time, truly substantial offers for Olise will be on the table in the summer of 2027.
At that point, in addition to FC Bayern’s stance, what the player himself wants could be the decisive factor.
Bayern knows such situations all too well
The Munich club, of all teams, knows from its own experience how difficult it can be for a club to retain a player who wants to leave, even if he has a long-term contract.
Over the decades, the record champions have repeatedly succeeded in first convincing sought-after players to move to Munich. Subsequently, the preliminary agreement with the player increased the pressure on his previous club.
In the case of Harry Kane’s transfer in the summer of 2023, his clear desire to move to Munich also played a key role. Uli Hoeneß even stated at the time that Tottenham would “have to cave in” because Kane had already decided on Bayern.
Should Olise, for his part, eventually express a clear desire to leave, the Munich club could suddenly find itself on the other side of such a situation.
Currently, however, there is no concrete indication that the Frenchman wants to leave FC Bayern. On the contrary, he feels at home in Munich and is still under contract for the long term. How the situation develops between now and next summer could also depend on the team’s on-field performance. Success in the Champions League, in particular, is likely to play an important role for a player of his caliber.
