The new Bundesliga season is underway, and FC Bayern made a statement right from the start. The record champions defeated VfB Stuttgart 5–1. Bayern shone on offense in many moments, and Michael Olise was once again in the spotlight.
He scored one goal from an offside position and another from a legitimate position. He was also very active throughout the game, hitting the post with a free kick and showing his usual fluidity and enthusiasm on offense.
There was also a very interesting, curious play. It involved a throw-in by FC Bayern.
Olise “outsmarted” the new rule
Throw-ins are under a bit more scrutiny this season. The reason for this is new rules designed to curb time-wasting. Specifically, if a throw-in takes too long, the referee will start counting down the time.
If the throw-in isn’t taken after that, possession goes to the opposing team.Olise had this in mind during a play in the second half. At first, he wanted to take the throw-in quickly, but then the run of the Bayern offense didn’t fit his plans.
Olise turned around, was counted out, realized what was happening, dropped the ball, and raised his hands innocently—as if to show that he had nothing to do with the entire play. At that moment, Konrad Laimer stepped in, calmly took the ball, and took the throw-in.
Clever or cheeky? Well, you can look at it either way. In any case, not too much time passed because of Olise’s move, and there wasn’t really a delay in the game.
That’s why this move didn’t have much of an impact. But if this isn’t stopped, the players have already found a loophole when it comes to this new interpretation of the rule.
