There was plenty of speculation this summer regarding Michael Olise’s future. Real Madrid was reportedly courting him, even though President Florentino Pérez repeatedly emphasized that they did not want to damage their relationship with Bayern.
In the meantime, however, the rumor mill was in full swing. It was said that Olise was open to a move to Real and would even be happy to make the switch. But in the end, not only did the Frenchman stay with FC Bayern, but no real transfer drama unfolded either.
Reports from the summer also indicated that Bayern Munich was interested in extending Olise’s contract early. However, Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern’s CEO, has put the brakes on that for now.
Dreesen Talks About Olise’s Future
Dreesen, who recently extended his own contract through 2029, spoke after Bayern Munich’s opening-day victory over Stuttgart (5–1) in the Bundesliga, expressing not only great satisfaction with the match but also addressing the Olise situation.
Regarding the rumors linking him to Real Madrid, Dreesen said: “As someone in charge who also knows the background, sometimes you can’t help but be amused, and at other times you get annoyed by what’s being written. We’ve always said: It’s nonsense. It was nonsense back then, and it’s still nonsense.”
Dreesen was also asked specifically about Olise’s future. The CEO of FC Bayern said that the club is in no rush at the moment. “No, we’re not in any talks right now. If I remember correctly, Michael still has a contract through 2029. So there’s no reason to act rashly or rush anything right now.”
That might sound surprising at first, because a salary adjustment naturally expresses appreciation and provides more security. But that doesn’t mean talks aren’t planned for later in the season. For now, though, extending Harry Kane’s contract—which is looking quite promising—is the top priority for the record-holding champions.
