Nathaniel Brown has settled in exceptionally well at FC Bayern so far. The new player, who joined from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, has already shown a very high level of play during preseason. And he’s not just impressing FC Bayern fans.
In the preseason friendlies against RB Leipzig and 1. FC Heidenheim, Brown scored a goal in each game. Even against BVB in the Super Cup—when he surprisingly played in the number 10 position—Brown not only made his mark but actually found the back of the net.
With a beautiful left-footed shot, he beat Gregor Kobel and put the record champions ahead 1–0.
Matthäus raves about Brown
Lothar Matthäus, the all-time leader in appearances for the German national team and a Sky analyst, has now raved about the qualities the Bayern newcomer brings to the table.
“Just how versatile and adaptable Coach Vincent Kompany’s team is was evident in the case of Nathaniel Brown. He played as the number 10 and scored a goal. That was important for him. Because when you join FC Bayern as a newcomer, you usually have to take a backseat at first—even if you’ve already played a few international matches,” Matthäus wrote in his new Sky column.
Matthäus is particularly impressed by Brown’s player profile. Brown has nearly everything it takes to take on various roles. “You can see how much trust Kompany has in him by letting him play in a position he hasn’t played since his youth. But we’ve also seen in Frankfurt and on the national team: When Brown moves from the back three to the number 8 or number 10 position, he’s a player like the former Leverkusen man Grimaldo,” raved the former FC Bayern pro.
And it is precisely this flexibility that is expected to make Vincent Kompany’s team even more unpredictable in the new season. Brown is thus already an important part of the roster early on.
