Jamal Musiala’s health situation continues to be a concern for FC Bayern. Most recently, Musiala himself attempted to provide more clarity with a public statement, in which he revealed his diagnosis. Stefan Effenberg is now calling on the record champions to provide further information.
After Jamal Musiala collapsed during the two preseason matches against Leipzig and Heidenheim, there is now a bit more clarity.
After the game against Heidenheim, Musiala took to Instagram to explain his situation: “I have been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absences that are attributable to a neurological dysfunction.”
Stefan Effenberg still sees unanswered questions, particularly regarding communication. In his column for t-online, the former Bayern player calls on the club to be much more transparent about Musiala’s situation.
Effenberg Calls for More Transparency
Effenberg demands that “Bayern—ideally in collaboration with a neurology expert—provide immediate updates on their player’s health.” In his view, the club must “immediately ensure greater transparency so that all outstanding questions are answered.”
The 58-year-old is not interested in speculating about Musiala’s health. Rather, he sees specific issues about which fans and the public have not yet been able to form a clear picture.
“How much playing time will Musiala get? How exactly are these absences—these types of epileptic seizures that he may experience—being treated?” asks Effenberg.
„That would be a big mistake“
In his view, it’s particularly important that FC Bayern doesn’t simply leave these questions unanswered: “Failing to address these issues now would be a big mistake on Bayern’s part,” warns the former national team player.
Effenberg fears that a lack of information could cause even more unrest in the long run: “A lack of transparency would do them—and, above all, Musiala—a disservice,” he explains.
After all, if concrete answers are not provided, the same questions could resurface every time the Bayern star makes a public appearance: “Then exactly these questions would come up again at every opportunity—and would cause unrest that would be carried into the club from the outside. They must not allow that to happen,” says Effenberg.
Bayern has been aware of the situation for some time
In the meantime, however, Vincent Kompany and Max Eberl have also spoken at length on the subject. In doing so, the Bayern officials revealed that the club has been aware of Musiala’s situation for quite some time and that all decisions were made in consultation with medical experts.

Eberl also explained that Musiala himself had expressed a desire to communicate his situation publicly. A change in his medication was also discussed. At the same time, Kompany emphasized that Musiala continues to receive the club’s full support and that internally, they are “very optimistic.”
With this, FC Bayern has already responded to some of the points raised by Effenberg; nevertheless, Jamal Musiala’s future continues to raise a number of questions. It is clear that the 23-year-old will not be in the squad for the Super Cup against Dortmund and is scheduled to train individually next week.
