A sigh of relief at FC Bayern and for Jamal Musiala. After his alarming collapse in the preseason match against RB Leipzig, the 23-year-old appears to be doing well again. It also seems the attacking star won’t have to take an extended break from training.
The images from the closing stages of the Telekom Cup had caused great concern. In the 84th minute, Musiala suddenly collapsed without any contact from an opponent and initially remained motionless on the field.
Teammates reacted immediately and called for medical assistance. Even an emergency doctor rushed onto the field. After a few anxious minutes, Musiala was able to get back to his feet. Supported by two assistants and to the applause of the spectators, he left the field, visibly dazed.
Now there is encouraging news regarding the German national team player’s condition.
Musiala could return to training soon
According to information from the SID, Musiala has recovered quickly from the incident and is doing well again. As a result, the Bayern star is expected to resume training in the coming days.
After his fainting spell, Musiala reportedly complained of dizziness and circulatory problems. He also reportedly struggled with the heat. Temperatures during the match exceeded 30 degrees.
As things stand, at least, there does not appear to be a more serious injury.
Eberl gives the all-clear
Sporting Director Max Eberl had already announced the most important news immediately after the match. “The most important thing is that he’s okay. We can’t say anything else at this point,” the 52-year-old explained to SPORT1.
The incident was particularly bitter because Musiala had come on as a substitute just a few minutes earlier and had scored the goal that made it 3-1.
With an eye toward the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund this coming Saturday, the latest news is nonetheless a huge relief for Vincent Kompany. Whether Musiala will be available for that match will likely depend on how he recovers over the next few days and when he can actually return to full team training.
