The Bayern reserves’ season opener has been a complete disaster. Following their opening-day loss to newly promoted SC Eltersdorf, Coach Dante’s team suffered another defeat on the second matchday of the Bavarian Regional League. FC Bayern II lost 0–2 to SV Wacker Burghausen and is now stuck at the bottom of the standings early in the season.
With former Bayern pro Dante at the helm, the Munich club had hoped for a fresh start. However, after two matchdays, they still have no points to show for it. Instead of a successful start to the season, the Brazilian now faces his first minor test as head coach.
Burghausen ruthlessly capitalized on Bayern’s mistakes
The hosts got off to a much better start and were rewarded with two goals in the first half alone. Felix Bachschmid put Burghausen ahead in the 22nd minute and completed his brace shortly before halftime (38th minute).
The second goal, however, was preceded by a costly blunder by Bayern goalkeeper Jannis Bärtl. The goalkeeper misjudged a clearance attempt outside his penalty area and jumped under the ball. Bachschmid capitalized on the mistake with clinical precision.
Bärtl had actually made a great save earlier in the match. In the 27th minute, the goalkeeper stopped a penalty kick by Moritz Bangerter, keeping his team in the game for the time being.
Dante is still waiting for his first competitive win
Even after the break, the Bayern amateurs could find no way to turn the game around. Burghausen defended its lead confidently and, with the 2-0 victory, secured the top spot in the Bavarian Regional League for the time being.
For Dante, the loss marks the second setback in just a few days. In the season opener, his team had already lost 0–1 to promoted side SC Eltersdorf in front of sporting director Max Eberl and first-team coach Vincent Kompany.
After two matchdays, FC Bayern II sits in 16th place—the relegation spot—without having earned a single point. The former fan favorite, who retired as a player this summer and subsequently took over as head coach, is still waiting for his first competitive victory on the Munich bench.
