For weeks, Michael Olise was considered Real Madrid’s top target. Now, however, a surprising turn of events appears to be unfolding. According to consistent media reports, the Royals are shifting their focus to another Bundesliga star—a development that is likely to play into FC Bayern’s hands as they seek to retain their attacking player.
FC Bayern had recently emphasized on several occasions that Michael Olise was not for sale. At the same time, speculation persisted that the French international himself would not be averse to a move to Madrid. Now, however, the tide seems to be turning.
As BILD, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, and The Athletic all report, Real Madrid has significantly stepped up its efforts to sign RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande.
Real Submits Multi-Million Offer for Diomande
According to information from Romano, the Royals have already submitted an initial official offer. This is said to total 100 million euros—consisting of a fixed sum of 90 million euros plus an additional 10 million euros in potential bonus payments.
However, RB Leipzig is said to have initially rejected the offer. According to Sky, the Saxon club is demanding even more than 100 million euros for the Ivorian attacking midfielder. Nevertheless, both clubs remain in talks.
Of particular interest: Paris Saint-Germain was most recently considered the most likely candidate to sign Diomande. According to media reports, the winger had already reached a basic agreement with the French Champions League winner. However, with Real Madrid entering the picture, this transfer could now take a completely new turn.
Olise is likely to stay in Munich
For FC Bayern, a successful transfer of Diomande to Madrid would be an extremely positive development. After all, both attacking players operate in comparable positions and fit a similar profile.
Making two costly signings for the wing positions within a single transfer window therefore seems unlikely.
Several media outlets had recently reported that Bayern is doing everything it can to extend Michael Olise’s contract long-term and make the 24-year-old one of the club’s top earners. If Real Madrid does indeed shift its priorities to Diomande now, a move for the French international this summer would likely be off the table for good.
