FC Bayern is heading into the 2026–27 season with a clear goalkeeping lineup. Manuel Neuer has extended his contract through 2027 and will continue to be the number one goalkeeper. Behind him, Jonas Urbig is considered the designated successor, while Sven Ulreich takes on the role of the experienced backup goalkeeper.
Despite this situation, the Munich club continues to closely monitor the international goalkeeper market. Time and again, new names are linked to the German record champions.
World Cup surprise as Bayern’s goalkeeper of the future?
The magazine *kicker* continues to fuel the rumor mill, bringing Paraguay’s national team goalkeeper Orlando Gill into the mix. According to the trade publication, the 1.98-meter-tall goalkeeper is an “exciting prospect.”
Gill really caught people’s attention at the World Cup. In the round of 32 against Germany, the 25-year-old became one of the match’s heroes with several strong saves—especially during the penalty shootout—and thus caught the eye of many European clubs.
The Paraguayan’s rise has been remarkable. Just two years ago, Gill was largely unknown even in his home country. Although he had been a professional since 2019, he had made only 15 competitive appearances by 2024 and was mostly limited to the role of backup goalkeeper.
His breakthrough didn’t come until early 2025, when he earned a starting spot at San Lorenzo in Argentina. Shortly thereafter, he was called up to the Paraguayan national team, where he quickly established himself as the number one goalkeeper.
Despite the emerging speculation, there are currently no indications that FC Bayern is actively preparing a transfer.
With Neuer, Urbig, and Ulreich, the Munich club considers itself well-positioned for the upcoming season, both in terms of quality and depth. The fact that new goalkeepers are nevertheless regularly scouted is part of the record champion’s long-term roster planning.
