Serge Gnabry was sidelined for a long time this year due to a complicated muscle injury. The record-holding champion’s offensive player is slowly working his way back to top form.
So far, however, he hasn’t played a major role for Bayern since his return. That said, his presence at the press conference suggests he’ll likely start in the Champions League match against Arsenal. This is often an indicator of a spot in the starting lineup.
With Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala out of the attack, the spots alongside Luis Diaz—who will play on the left wing—are vacant anyway.
Gnabry: “I need playing time”
The national team player spoke at the press conference about his current form and what he still needs to do to get back to 100% by the end of the season.
“I’m happy to be back after an injury layoff that lasted a bit longer than expected. I’m also looking forward to every game—of course, I need playing time to get back into the rhythm—but I’m very relaxed about it. The most important thing for me is always that the team wins,” said the forward.

He also explained that he’s not yet at 100% and that the most important news for him recently was that there have been no setbacks in his recovery or as he’s increased his workload.
Gnabry was also asked what Olise’s absence means for Bayern’s game. “Michael is a very important player on our team who delivers incredibly well. But a team is always prepared for substitutions. We just have to step on the gas tomorrow,” explained the 31-year-old.
The conversation also turned to the national team player’s possible preferred position; he has long played on the wing but has recently been playing much more frequently in the center: “I feel comfortable in all positions—that’s certainly one of my strengths. Maybe the number 10 position suits me best.”
