Another departure is on the horizon for FC Bayern. A full-blown bidding war has broken out over FCB youngster Jonathan Asp Jensen. Instead of moving to Italy, the Dane could end up playing in Spain.
Jonathan Asp Jensen is among the players who could leave FC Bayern this summer. Following his loan stint with Grasshoppers Zurich, the attacking midfielder has attracted interest from several European clubs.
Most recently, Lazio Rome was considered the clear favorite to sign the Dane. The Romans had already made an initial offer and were in advanced talks with FC Bayern.
Deportivo enters the fray
Now, however, the transfer could take a surprising turn. As reported by BILD, a new suitor—Deportivo La Coruña—has entered the fray. The team, which has just been promoted to Spain’s La Liga, is said to have presented the 20-year-old with an attractive sporting opportunity and believes it has a good chance of securing his signature.
While Lazio plans to use Asp Jensen primarily as a rotation player, Deportivo is said to be offering the offensive talent significantly more playing time. In addition, officials at the historic Spanish club have been closely evaluating the player and have put together a lucrative overall package.
Bayern insists on a share of any future transfer fee
Meanwhile, negotiations between FC Bayern and Lazio continue to drag on. According to information from BILD, the Italians most recently offered a transfer fee of around four million euros for Asp Jensen. With Deportivo’s entry into the race, this sum could rise even further. His current market value is estimated at four million euros. Bayern itself paid around one million euros for the midfielder in the summer of 2022.
Discussions are primarily focused on a potential sell-on clause, which the Munich club considers very important. It is not yet known whether Deportivo is willing to meet this demand.
In addition to the two clubs, teams from the Bundesliga and France are also reported to have recently inquired about Asp Jensen. As things stand, however, these interested parties are only playing a minor role in the transfer negotiations.
The decision is still up in the air. One thing is clear, though: Following Deportivo La Coruña’s entry into the picture, the future of the Bayern talent is once again completely up in the air.
