FC Bayern is once again being linked to a move for Dani Olmo. The Spanish national team player apparently remains on the radar of the German record champions. While there had recently been speculation about a possible winter transfer, new information has now emerged regarding Munich’s timeline.
Sky had already reported nearly three weeks ago that Bayern was considering a possible move in January. However, according to the Spanish newspaper SPORT, a winter transfer is not on the table. Instead, the 28-year-old might not become a concrete target until next summer.
What’s particularly interesting: Max Eberl—the very man who knows Olmo very well from their time together at RB Leipzig—is said to be the one driving the interest forward.
Eberl is said to be a strong advocate for an Olmo transfer.
According to SPORT, Eberl is one of the strongest advocates for a potential signing of the Spanish attacking player. The Bayern sporting director previously worked with Olmo at RB Leipzig and values his on-field qualities.
The 28-year-old is considered a technically outstanding attacking player who can be deployed both in the number 10 position and on the attacking wings.
However, the question arises as to whether FC Bayern even needs another playmaker. With Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise, the Munich club already has two top-tier players for the creative midfield role. Vincent Kompany also offers additional options in attack.
According to SPORT, Bayern is therefore primarily considering Olmo as a precautionary measure. Reportedly, club officials want to be prepared for the possible departures of Musiala or Olise.
Olmo is reportedly unhappy with his situation at Barcelona

Whether a transfer could even become a possibility apparently also depends on Olmo’s current situation at FC Barcelona. The Spanish national team player is under contract with the Catalans through the summer of 2030, but is reportedly not entirely satisfied with his role on the field.
According to SPORT, the 28-year-old is particularly bothered by the fact that he hasn’t been a regular starter this season. On top of that, there appears to be another source of frustration.
According to the report, Olmo is reportedly annoyed that his failure to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or was not met with the same level of criticism within the club as the cases of his teammates Raphinha and Pedri.
Whether this dissatisfaction is actually enough to make him consider leaving Barcelona remains to be seen.
After all, Olmo has close ties to his home club and still has a long-term contract.
A transfer to Bayern depends on several factors
For FC Bayern, signing the Spaniard would not be a foregone conclusion anyway. First, FC Barcelona would have to be willing, in principle, to let their attacking player go. Financial considerations are also likely to play a decisive role.
Furthermore, Olmo himself would have to agree to a move to Munich. Above all, however, a potential transfer depends on how the personnel situation in Bayern’s offense develops between now and next summer.
If Musiala and Olise remain in Munich long-term, signing the 28-year-old would be difficult to justify from a sporting perspective.
At present, therefore, this is more of a potential scenario for future roster planning than an imminent transfer.
However, the fact that Eberl continues to rate the former Leipzig player highly could keep the topic alive in the coming months.
