Felix Nmecha impressed across the board in the German national team’s World Cup opener. Now there is even early speculation as to whether the BVB star could be a target for FC Bayern.
Felix Nmecha was one of the standout players on the field during Germany’s 7-1 victory over Curaçao. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder scored the opening goal early in the match and went on to deliver a strong performance in central midfield.
His performance did not go unnoticed by the media either. In BILD’s World Cup studio, journalist Filip Thiel raised an interesting point after the match. The backdrop is Leon Goretzka’s still-uncertain future at FC Bayern.
“It just occurred to me: Goretzka is leaving, and he plays so well alongside Pavlovic. And of course, the folks at Bayern are watching the World Cup too. It’s not entirely far-fetched for Max Eberl to think about that, is it?” Thiel explained.
In fact, Nmecha and Aleksandar Pavlovic worked well together for long stretches against Curaçao. Both provided stability in the center and impressed both in defense and in building up play.
In recent months, Nmecha had already played his way into the spotlight. At BVB, the 25-year-old has developed into a key player and just this spring extended his contract long-term through 2030.
Reif doesn’t believe in a Bayern scenario with Nmecha
However, legendary reporter Marcel Reif finds it hard to imagine a move to Munich. The longtime TV commentator pointed primarily to the sporting situation at the German record champions.
“But I think Kimmich plays there—and Kimmich doesn’t play defense for Bayern. Come on! He’d have to wait his turn at the back. And that’s not going to happen. Dortmund won’t in a million years sell this player.”
In fact, a transfer currently seems unlikely. Joshua Kimmich is a fixture in central midfield, and Aleksandar Pavlovic is considered one of the most important building blocks for FC Bayern’s future. On top of that, Nmecha signed a long-term contract extension with BVB just a few months ago.

Borussia Dortmund is also unlikely to have any interest in letting one of its most important midfielders go to a direct rival. Club officials explicitly described the contract extension in the spring as a signal of long-term planning.
Nevertheless, the discussion highlights the impression Nmecha is currently making with his performances. Recently, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea have been linked with the German international. According to Sky, Real Madrid is also interested in Nmecha. Following his strong World Cup performance, the attention surrounding the Dortmund player is likely to grow even more.
However, there are currently no concrete indications of interest from Bayern. The statements from the BILD studio remain mere speculation for now—even if Nmecha is impressively promoting himself at the World Cup.
