Harry Kane has delivered world-class performances at FC Bayern for years, but TV pundit Dietmar Hamann warns Munich to be cautious about a potential contract extension
Harry Kane has been one of the record champions‘ absolute difference-makers since his move to FC Bayern in the summer of 2023. The England captain has scored an impressive 143 goals in 146 competitive matches to date and has also set up 33 goals
This makes the 32-year-old even more effective statistically than Robert Lewandowski once was. Kane is currently involved in a goal every 67 minutes – Lewandowski scored 76 minutes during his time at Bayern
So it’s no wonder that Munich would like to extend his contract, which runs until 2027
But it is precisely on this subject that Bayern’s chief critic Dietmar Hamann is now urging caution
Hamann warns Bayern not to extend contract too long
The former Bayern professional told tz that the term of a possible extension in particular must be assessed critically
„He has one year left on his contract. I think they’re talking about two or three years, and I’d be a bit cautious about that because he’s now 33. The question is: how long will he keep scoring goals? He’s scored a lot of goals in his three years here,“ said Hamann
The former international made it clear that he would not be against an extension in principle – but only within a manageable framework
„An extension of one year – yes. Two years – possibly. Three years would be too much in my opinion,“ emphasized the 51-year-old
Nevertheless, Hamann had nothing but praise for the Bayern goalscorer: „People are very happy with him. He’s a great ambassador for soccer. It’s an honour for the Bundesliga and for Bayern Munich that the England captain is playing here.“
He added: „There’s never been anything like this before – the England captain playing here. I think, regardless of what happens in the next year or two, he’ll always have a special place with the fans.“
Champions League as the final step to Bayern legend?
In Hamann’s view, however, Kane is still missing a decisive success for ultimate legend status: „But to really write yourself into the history books, you probably have to win the Champions League with Munich. So to really go down in club history as a legend, I think he would have to win the Champions League while he’s still here.“

The coming months are likely to be decisive for Kane’s future. FC Bayern want to keep Kane for the long term, while at the same time the Englishman is probably looking for the last big contract of his career
The striker will be celebrating his 33rd birthday after the World Cup – but he is still in absolute top form in sporting terms. The question of how long the partnership should continue in the future is therefore likely to be a difficult one for all involved
Hamann once again put his opinion clearly in a nutshell: „So I think there will be a struggle over the duration – but you should be careful not to overdo it with the extension.“
