Nicolas Jackson was brought to FC Bayern last summer as a backup for Harry Kane – and the Senegalese has reliably fulfilled this role so far. In 33 competitive matches, the 24-year-old currently has ten goals and four assists
At first glance, these figures may not seem extraordinary, but considering his comparatively few minutes of action, the balance is much more positive. Nevertheless, it recently seemed almost impossible that the attacker would stay beyond the summer
Now, however, a statement from Lothar Matthäus has given rise to fresh speculation surrounding Jackson’s future
Matthäus reveals Kompany’s wish
The record-breaking German international explained on Sky90 that Vincent Kompany apparently thinks highly of Jackson internally
„Kompany is convinced by Jackson and he would have liked to keep him in Munich, but he is too expensive,“ Matthäus revealed
At the same time, the 64-year-old hinted that keeping him is not completely out of the question: „Kompany has said internally that he would like to keep Jackson, but of course probably at a certain price, which his employer Chelsea will not necessarily accept.“
So it seems clear that Jackson continues to enjoy a high level of trust from the Bayern coach

However, the transfer fee remains a problem. According to earlier reports, the loan agreement contains a purchase obligation of around 65 million euros, which would have applied if Jackson had played 40 games in the starting eleven
It became clear early on that this mark would not be reached, and internally it was considered difficult to imagine that Bayern would pay such a high sum for a backup striker
And Chelsea do not seem to want to give in on the price either. According to The Athletic, the Blues are still valuing Jackson at around 70 million euros
That would be an enormous investment for FC Bayern – especially in view of other planned transfers in the summer
Nevertheless, Matthäus‘ statement now shows that keeping Jackson is apparently not completely off the table after all.
