Harry Kane’s missed penalty is an unusual image. Shortly before the miss, a scene took place around Wolfsburg professional Jeanuël Belocian that raises questions.
Harry Kane was previously regarded as an absolute bench player from the penalty spot at FC Bayern. In the Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg, the Englishman now missed a penalty in the Bundesliga for the first time, having previously converted 24 penalties in a row.
In the 36th minute, FC Bayern were awarded a penalty in the away game in Wolfsburg. Kane stepped up as usual, but slipped slightly when taking the shot and put the ball well over the top right of the goal.
According to TV footage from Sky, Wolfsburg professional Jeanuël Belocian was working the penalty spot before the spot-kick was taken. The 21-year-old stepped on the spot several times, which is where Kane headed a little later.

Simic: „It’s absolutely unfair!“
Lothar Matthäus clearly categorized the action on Sky. The record international said: „If the referee doesn’t see it … He’s a bit indifferent. Everything is waiting for the VAR. Then I’ll just put another little hole in it.“
When Matthäus saw the replay of the Kane penalty afterwards, he noticed the attacker’s reaction: „He slips away and looks backwards straight away. There was something there! Maybe someone kicked a hole in the turf,“ explained the TV pundit.
Julia Simic also found clear words for the scene on Sky: „It’s absolutely unfair. You shouldn’t do that. But I don’t know whether it was the decisive factor (the shooting, ed.),“ said the expert.
This is the eleventh time this season that Kane has taken the penalty spot, more than any other player in a Bundesliga season. The miss against Wolfsburg came as a surprise precisely because of his exceptional rate. However, such an action is not entirely new in the Bundesliga. Augsburg’s goalkeeper at the time, Marwin Hitz, had already damaged the penalty spot in Cologne in December 2015. Anthony Modeste then slipped on the spot kick and Hitz saved.
