Another campus talent gets the big stage at FC Bayern. Vincent Kompany could give another youngster a special chance against Mainz.
Bastian Assomo is part of FC Bayern’s professional squad for the first time. According to TZ München, the 16-year-old attacker is in the squad for today’s match against Mainz. Filip Pavić, Deniz Ofli and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye are also included.
Assomo has been playing at the Bayern campus since July 2025. The centre-forward came to Munich from Hertha BSC and his contract runs until 2028. The right-footed striker is part of the record champions‘ U17 squad and has also played for the German U16s, bringing a player into focus who is actually still firmly anchored in the youth ranks.
Assomo could set the next campus mark

Should Assomo actually feature against Mainz, he would be the twelfth debutant under Vincent Kompany. At the same time, the striker would reach a historic mark: at 16 years, three months and 22 days, Assomo would be the third-youngest professional in FC Bayern’s history. Only Paul Wanner and Filip Pavić were even younger when they made their first appearance for the record champions.
Since taking office, the Bayern coach has given several young players the opportunity to make the leap to the professional ranks, bringing the campus visibly closer to the first team. Names such as Lennart Karl, Wisdom Mike, Maycon Cardozo, Filip Pavić, Deniz Ofli and Erblin Osmani fit into this line-up. For the 16-year-old, the nomination is already a remarkable step, regardless of whether he makes an appearance.
The attacker has already shown his athleticism in the U17s. Assomo has been deployed as a centre-forward several times this season, scoring against Unterhaching, Ulm, Freiburg and Stuttgarter Kickers, among others. Born in Berlin, he is regarded as a classic penalty-area player who will continue to be introduced to the professional game at the Campus.
For Kompany, the lean squad continues to offer room for such personnel. Behind the established professionals, talented players from the campus are constantly gaining experience in training and in the matchday environment. Assomo could now take the next step against Mainz and appear in a competitive match for the first time for the Bayern professionals.
