FC Bayern are dominating the game, but individual personnel issues continue to cause discussion. Former international Dietmar Hamann has now expressed a clear opinion on the future of Harry Kane. His statements provide an insight into a different view of the goalscorer’s role.
In an exclusive interview with the AZ, Hamann is clear on the contract situation of the centre-forward, whose contract with FC Bayern Munich runs until 2027. „For me, an extension with Kane would not be an issue at the moment,“ the 52-year-old makes clear. The Englishman will be 33 in July and it is also unclear how long he will be able to maintain his high level of goalscoring.
Hamann focuses in particular on Kane’s role on the pitch. „Kane is now playing a different role, dropping deeper,“ explains the TV pundit and sees this as a potential cause for concern. The striker is less likely to finish in the penalty area, which, according to Hamann, does not correspond to his actual profile.
Kane’s role a problem against top teams?

Based on his own experience, the former Bayern professional has clear words: „As a coach and Bayern fan, I would be a little worried about how he plays because that’s not his job.“ Top strikers of the past decades have almost exclusively used their energy in attack. The intensive running that Kane is currently doing could take revenge in crucial phases.
Hamann even goes one step further and poses the system question. „If you want to beat Arsenal, Paris, Liverpool or Real, you need Kane right up front to score the goals,“ he emphasizes. He doesn’t know whether Vincent Kompany ’s coaching team likes this style of play – he certainly doesn’t like it himself.
However, Bayern had previously painted a different picture internally. Within the club, Kane is still regarded as a clear fixture in the squad planning, with external alternatives for the center forward not playing a role recently. Kane’s personal satisfaction in Munich has also been highlighted several times as an important factor. The England captain is said to be open to an extension at the record champions.
