The search for a successor to Thomas Tuchel is coming to an end. Vincent Kompany is on the verge of signing for FC Bayern. His former coach Pep Guardiola has now commented on the developments.

The search for a coach at FC Bayern appears to be coming to an end. Following the rejection of numerous top candidates, the current favourite, Vincent Kompany, is very enthusiastic about working at Säbener Straße and, according to media reports, is close to signing.

Kompany’s former coach at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, has now also spoken about Bayern’s potential signing of Kompany: „I’m happy about the link between Bayern and Vinnie,“ said Guardiola ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester United.

The former Bayern coach thinks a lot of Kompany. The relegation with Burnley plays no role in this: „I have the highest regard for his work, his personality, his knowledge of the game and the way he deals with the media,“ Guardiola continued.

He concluded: „I would like Bayern to make the best decision – they deserve it.“

Agreement probably reached – Kompany becomes Bayern coach

After it became clear after the first talks between FC Bayern and Vincent Kompany that the Belgian was keen on the job in Munich, it was only a matter of contract details and the transfer fee. The 38-year-old was still contractually bound to Burnley FC until 2028.

The transfer fee could actually have been a stumbling block. The relegated Premier League side initially demanded £20 million, which is roughly equivalent to €23.5 million. Now, however, both clubs have apparently agreed on a transfer fee of between 10 and 12 million euros, meaning the deal is in the bag.
