FC Bayern may have finally found what they were looking for in their search for a coach for next summer. The club is said to be in advanced talks with former coach Julian Nagelsmann, of all people. Ex-Bayern star Holger Badstuber is not very enthusiastic about a possible return of the current national coach to Säbener Straße.

The Nagelsmann poker is heating up. While the Bayern bosses do not want to comment publicly on a possible comeback, his advisor Volker Struth confirmed this week that there are concrete talks between the club and the coaching side. According to Struth, Nagelsmann wants to make a final decision by the end of April.

Ex-Bayern professional Holger Badstuber is critical of Julian Nagelsmann’s comeback: „The way in which both sides communicated at the time of the separation was not exactly professional. The idea of Nagelsmann coming back after 15 months would be too early and incomprehensible for me,“ he explained on Sky.

As mentioned by Badstuber, the Bavarian management – led at the time by Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic – parted ways with Nagelsmann as they felt their own goals were being jeopardised. At the time, the 36-year-old’s departure came without warning and rather unexpectedly. At the end of the season, Thomas Tuchel still managed to win the league title, but was eliminated without a chance in the Champions League against Manchester City.

The DFB is also fighting for Nagelsmann

According to Sky, Nagelsmann is definitely ready for a return. The talks were reportedly initiated by Max Eberl, and the entire Munich management team is now also convinced by Nagelsmann.

The current national coach is very popular, and the DFB would also like to extend his contract beyond the end of the season. DFB sports director Rudi Völler recently announced that they are optimistic about an extension with Nagelsmann.
