The search for a coach at FC Bayern is entering the final phase. Over the past few days, there have been increasing reports that Julian Nagelsmann is the top candidate to succeed Thomas Tuchel at the German record champions. His advisor has now confirmed talks with the Munich club and announced that the 36-year-old will make a decision in the near future.
Several media outlets had recently reported unanimously that Julian Nagelsmann is the new top favourite for the vacant coaching position at FC Bayern. According to Sky, the club and the coaching side are in advanced talks.
Max Eberl commented on Tuesday evening, during the Champions League match against Arsenal, on the current rumours surrounding Nagelsmann and a possible return to the German record champions as follows: „I know that this is the question that is currently occupying the whole of Germany. I haven’t commented on any names so far and will continue to do so,“ he explained in an interview with DAZN.
„It will be decided shortly“
Curious: Just a few hours later, Nagelsmann’s advisor himself confirmed that there are concrete talks between Bayern and the former Munich coach: „Everyone is currently asking me the same question: Is Nagelsmann going back to Bayern or what is Nagelsmann doing? It would be complete rubbish to say that we’re not talking to interested parties. Without wanting to say who the interested parties are. I can only say that it’s not just Bayern Munich. That’s quite normal. That’s my job and it would be a bit of a joke to say to the media that we’re not in talks. Of course we are in talks now,“ explained Volker Struth in the „Spielmacher-EM-Podcast“.
Particularly interesting: According to Struth, Nagelsmann wants to make a final decision in the next two weeks or so on what will happen to him after EURO 2024: „It will be decided shortly. In the next 5, 6, 7 days. It has also been announced by Julian himself that he will probably make a decision about his future in April.“
In addition to Bayern, the German Football Association is also hoping for an extension. Nagelsmann is also rumoured to be on the radar of several top European clubs.
Bayern also want to make a decision soon
Nagelsmann is not the only one who wants clarity as soon as possible; Bayern are also pushing for it: „I know that the fans are interested. We are too, as we want to make a decision as soon as possible. We have had a lot of talks and now we have to make a decision,“ emphasised Eberl.
According to reports, Bayern want to make this final decision by the end of April. In addition to Nagelsmann, Unai Emery, Ralf Rangnick and Robert de Zerbi are also being considered by the German record champions.
