The mood at FC Bayern is tense ahead of the important Champions League clash against FC Arsenal. After the defeat against Heidenheim, sporting director Max Eberl made it clear that sporting success is currently the absolute focus.
In the Bundesliga, FC Bayern is now 16 points behind Bayer Leverkusen. The topic of the championship has been off the table for some time now. Munich is now looking downwards in the table. After the defeat at Heidenheim, sporting director Max Eberl warned that the team would not lose out on qualification for the Champions League in the coming weeks.
VfB Stuttgart have already drawn level with Bayern with their 1-0 win against BVB and are threatening to knock FCB off second place. The lead to fifth place is „only“ seven points.
„No need to travel to London on Tuesday“
After the defeat, sporting director Max Eberl criticised the Bayern stars and their performance in particular. After two consecutive defeats in the Bundesliga, the 50-year-old’s anticipation for the Champions League clash against Arsenal is limited: „Then you don’t need to travel to London on Tuesday. You’ve got a team there that can do the same on the pitch and – with all due respect to Heidenheim – is a class above them in terms of football. You’ll have to really turn it around to avoid getting your nose bitten off,“ he rumbled in the mixed zone after the 3-2 defeat against Heidenheim.
According to Eberl, sporting success is currently the top priority in Munich. Even the coaching search is temporarily taking a back seat: „I don’t give a f*** about the coaching search right now. Right now it’s all about the game on Tuesday. That will be complicated enough,“ said Eberl.
