After FC Bayern’s 2-0 home defeat against Borussia Dortmund, coach Thomas Tuchel congratulated Bayer Leverkusen on their championship win. This apparently did not go down well with the FCB bosses.
Coach Thomas Tuchel’s congratulations on the championship to Bayer Leverkusen apparently did not go down well with the FC Bayern bosses. According to Sport BILD, the way in which Tuchel congratulated his rivals „in front of every camera“ did not sit well with the Bayern bosses.
It is in Bayern’s DNA to be chronically bad losers, the report continued. „Rolling out the red carpet for the competition“ like Tuchel contradicts the self-image of the German record champions.
Thomas Müller’s statement was more in keeping with Bayern’s approach. After the defeat against BVB, the veteran only said: „We’ll congratulate you when the time comes.“
Tuchel „officially wrote off“ the championship
Tuchel, on the other hand, congratulated Leverkusen, who now have a 13-point lead over FCB after their last-minute win over TSG Hoffenheim and Bayern’s subsequent home defeat to the Black & Yellows.
The coach was visibly disappointed after the defeat in the classic against BVB and „officially wrote off“ the championship for FC Bayern: „After today’s game, we no longer need to count. How many points are there now?“ he asked in an interview with Sky. When he learnt that it was 13 points, his reaction was clear: „Congratulations to Leverkusen!“
Tuchel will leave Bayern after the current season. He and his team are facing a season without a title. Only in the Champions League can they still harbour hopes of lifting the trophy. However, Bayern must first eliminate FC Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
