Xabi Alonso is still the absolute favourite to succeed Thomas Tuchel at FC Bayern. According to the latest reports, however, the Munich club have now found a concrete alternative for the 42-year-old.

The search for a coach at FC Bayern is in full swing. While Munich are working in the background to sign Xabi Alonso, it remains to be seen whether the German record champions will actually make a move on the successful Bayer Leverkusen coach this summer.

FCB are currently being linked with numerous alternatives. However, as reported by kicker, the Bayern bosses have now defined a clear plan B.

Will Rangnick make a comeback in the Bundesliga?

As kicker reporter Georg Holzner reports on X, Ralf Rangnick is the first alternative should Alonso decide against a commitment to FC Bayern.

The „football professor“ has been Austria’s national team coach since the summer of 2022 and led the team to the European Football Championship in Germany with great aplomb. Rangnick’s contract with the Austrian FA runs until the 2026 World Cup, which means that, as with Alonso, FCB would have to pay a transfer fee or come to an initial agreement with the Austrian FA regarding a transfer.

Rangnick was already a topic at Bayern in 2019

The 65-year-old has coached numerous clubs in Germany (including Schalke, Hoffenheim and Leipzig) and abroad (Manchester United) over the past 30 years and has also gained experience as a sports official in a wide variety of roles.

This is not the first time Rangnick has been linked with Bayern. In an interview with „Sport BILD“, he revealed that a Bayern engagement almost materialised in 2019. However, Munich ultimately decided in favour of Hansi Flick following the sacking of Niko Kovac.
