Bitter news for FC Bayern, especially for Thomas Tuchel. The 50-year-old will most likely have to do without Manuel Neuer in the Bundesliga top match against Borussia Dortmund, as FCB goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner has now revealed.

Manuel Neuer has been in absolute top form in recent months. The FCB captain has not only surprised fans and the media with his comeback, national coach Julian Nagelsmann is also so impressed by the 37-year-old’s performances that he has named him the new or old number 1 in the DFB goal for the European Championship.

All the more bitter is the fact that Neuer suffered a torn muscle fibre during training with the DFB squad this week and had to pull out of the international trip early. According to Bayern goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner, the Munich team are also affected by this injury.

„The timing is unfortunate“

According to Rechner, there is currently little to suggest that Neuer will be ready to play again in time for the top match against Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena on 30 March: „It could of course be very, very tight against Dortmund. I’m currently assuming that it probably won’t be enough for Dortmund,“ he revealed in an interview with Sky. This would mean that he would not make his return to the Bayern goal until 6 April at the earliest for the visit match against 1. FC Heidenheim.

At least Neuer has not suffered a more serious injury: „The timing is unfortunate. But basically it’s just a minor injury. He is undergoing treatment and is making good progress. The injury is nothing dramatic. He’ll be back quickly.“

Rechner also emphasised that Neuer will be given enough time for his rehab: „We’ll see how he’s doing next week and when he can be back on the pitch. There’s no pressure on him at all.“
