Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s contract at FC Bayern expires at the end of the season. Will the Munich club then bring in a new striker? According to sporting director Max Eberl, the bosses are even considering a dual leadership.
For many years, FC Bayern has played with a single clear centre-forward. This is currently Harry Kane, previously Robert Lewandowski, for example.
In future, however, Bayern could also attack with a double centre forward. Those responsible are apparently currently thinking about this. Chief Sports Officer Max Eberl revealed this in an interview with Sport BILD: „Bayern Munich stands for offence, for goals. That’s why we’re thinking about a second number 9, of course. We don’t yet know whether we might be playing with a double centre-half,“ he explained.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s contract expires in the summer and it is likely that Bayern will not extend the attacker’s contract. Will they bring in a new striker or will they rely fully on youngster Mathys Tel?
Eberl said: „In Mathys Tel, we have a striker who can play in the centre. We can’t yet say whether he will play there permanently one day. This season, he’s played a lot on the wing and had a big impact there.“
Could Guirassy form a duo with Kane?
The question of whether a double centre forward could be conceivable at Bayern in the future is particularly interesting in view of Serhou Guirassy. The VfB Stuttgart striker is rumoured to be on Bayern’s radar and could be interesting because he could leave the Swabians for around €20 million due to a release clause. Not a high price for the Bundesliga’s current second-best goalscorer.
The catch: Guirassy apparently does not want to come to Munich purely as a replacement for top goalscorer Kane, but would prefer to form an attacking duo with the Englishman. Whether that could be conceivable will ultimately be a question for the future Bayern coach – but he has yet to be found.
