Darmstadt coach raves about Musiala: Germany will be European champions with him
Jamal Musiala is currently almost unstoppable. The 21-year-old was the best man on the pitch in FC Bayern’s 5:2 win at Darmstadt 98. Thorsten Lieberknecht went into raptures at the press conference afterwards.
Bayern star Jamal Musiala was also in impressive form in the last match before the international break. The DFB international scored twice against Darmstadt and also provided the assist for Serge Gnabry’s goal.
In doing so, the high-class striker confirmed his strong performances of recent weeks. Musiala has scored a total of seven goals in the last three games.
Lieberknecht delighted with Musiala
After the match, even Darmstadt coach Thorsten Lieberknecht was delighted with Musiala’s performance: „When you’re not directly involved as an opposing coach or team, it’s a real pleasure to watch the youngster,“ said the 50-year-old.
Lieberknecht also has high hopes for the German national team thanks to Musiala: „Germany and the national team are lucky to have such a player. He will lead the team to the European Championships, if they don’t even become European champions with him.“
Thomas Tuchel had to take a moment to compose himself after his fellow coach’s speech of praise: „Wow. The lights go out for a moment.“ He then went on to praise his protégé: „Jamal has been very decisive in recent weeks. We’re always happy with him, his potential is outstanding.“
Upcoming contract negotiations
After repeated speculation about Musiala’s sporting future, the Munich management are currently preparing a contract offer for their superstar. As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, the Bayern bosses would like to hold concrete talks with the player in the coming weeks, or by the end of the current season at the latest.
With a rumoured salary of five to seven million euros per year, Musiala is currently one of the „low earners“ at the German record champions – but this is likely to change dramatically if he extends his contract. In addition to the financial aspect, the sporting perspective is also said to play a decisive role in Musiala’s considerations. The youngster wants to ensure that he can regularly compete for the Champions League title in the future.
