Even though Bayern came away empty-handed with Ronald Araujo in the winter, Munich are said to still be interested in the FC Barcelona defender and see him as a transfer target for next summer. The 25-year-old has now spoken out about his future and reaffirmed his loyalty to the Catalans.
In an interview with ESPN this week, the defender was asked about his sporting future. The 25-year-old had a clear answer: „Everyone knows that I’m very happy at Barça. I always try to show that every time I wear this jersey. I’m happy here and will always give my best.“
Araujo was already considered Thomas Tuchel’s absolute favourite player last winter. According to consistent media reports, the German record champions have repeatedly expressed their interest in the centre-back. According to reports, they were even prepared to put up to 80 million euros on the table to lure him to Säbener Straße. However, a transfer never materialised.
„I’m always asked about Bayern“
Munich could make another attempt in the summer. As ESPN reports, the Catalans are definitely willing to talk to Araujo. According to the report, they are demanding a transfer fee of around 100 million euros. Despite the ongoing declarations of loyalty, the star defender himself is not averse to a move to the Bavarian capital.
Even though Araujo is very happy at Barcelona, he has not categorically ruled out a move in the summer: „I’m very happy here, but I don’t know what will happen. The media keep talking about Bayern Munich, but I have a contract here until 2026.“
It remains to be seen whether Bayern are really prepared to pay such a sum for Araujo. After persistent personnel problems, the German record champions now have a broad base in central defence. In addition to winter signing Eric Dier, they already have four regular centre-backs in Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano and Minjae Kim.
