Next summer, a number of players will be put to the test at FC Bayern. A major squad shake-up with notable departures and new arrivals is certainly a topic of discussion at Säbener Straße. On the acquisition side, the German record champions could try to lure Jeremie Frimpong, a high-flyer from league leaders Bayer 04 Leverkusen, to the Isar.

Jeremie Frimpong is currently one of the faces of success at league leaders Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The Dutchman plays a key role in the Werkself under Bayer coach Xabi Alonso and has already scored 15 goals (eight goals, seven assists) in 23 Bundesliga games as a right-sided centre-back.

The fact that these strong performances have not gone unnoticed by Munich is also reflected in the numerous transfer rumours in recent weeks. However, Bavarian interest in the Dutch high-flyer is nothing new.

Salihamidzic already wanted to sign Frimpong

In the BILD podcast „Bayern Insider“, chief reporter Christian Falk reported that former sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic is said to have already been interested in Frimpong. According to the report, there had already been a secret meeting between the former sporting director and the Leverkusen star in the past, at which they are said to have discussed a transfer for the 2022/23 season.

Even then, Frimpong is said to have signalled that he could imagine a move to the Isar in principle. However, Munich decided against signing him at the time, as Leverkusen are said to have asked for a transfer fee of up to €30 million. In addition, Noussair Mazraoui was a cheaper alternative on the market, who ultimately also moved to Munich.

Bayern’s interest has not cooled down

According to Falk, this interest in Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong still exists even after the personnel upheaval at management level with new sporting director Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund.

Eberl is also said to be convinced of the footballing qualities of the track player. Even though Bayer Leverkusen only extended Frimpong’s contract until 2028 last October, this employment contract is said to contain a fixed exit clause of around 40 million euros. A price tag that the Munich club should probably not immediately shy away from due to Frimpong’s strong performances.
