More and more details are leaking out about the German national team’s squad for the upcoming international matches. National coach Julian Nagelsmann has probably already decided on his number 1 goalkeeper for the home European Championships.
The German number 1 goalkeeper for the national team at the upcoming home European Championships has apparently been decided. According to kicker, FC Bayern’s Manuel Neuer will be confirmed as the first goalkeeper at the tournament in Germany during the upcoming international matches in France (23 March) and against the Netherlands (26 March).
Neuer broke his lower leg in a skiing accident after the World Cup in Qatar and was then out of action for almost a year. In the meantime, Marc-Andre ter Stegen from FC Barcelona has been playing his way into the national team goal.
Many observers had assumed that ter Stegen could also keep goal for Germany at the European Championships, as it was impossible to predict what form Neuer would return in after his long injury break.

However, the 37-year-old didn’t need long to get back to his old self. In addition, ter Stegen suffered a back injury last November and had to take almost three months off as a result, while Neuer performed consistently at FC Bayern and did not allow himself any mistakes.
In December, Neuer said of his competition with ter Stegen: „We’re team-mates and we all want to play a good European Championship.“ He added: „No matter how it turns out, we will have a good goalkeeper between the posts.“
This good goalkeeper will now be Manuel Neuer at the upcoming European Championships.
When making his nomination, Nagelsmann is also likely to make one change to the goalkeeping team: According to kicker, Kevin Trapp from Eintracht Frankfurt will not be nominated as the third goalkeeper, instead Bernd Leno from FC Fulham from the English Premier League will be invited.
