After an occasionally disappointing season, FC Bayern is on the verge of a reorganisation both in sporting terms and in management positions. Following the recent appointment of Max Eberl as Chief Sports Officer, Bayern President Herbert Hainer talks about the reorganisation at the German record champions. He also mentions the difficulties that need to be overcome in order to remain internationally competitive.
A lot will change at FC Bayern next summer. „We are realigning the board around chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen, his deputy Michael Diederich and our sports director Max Eberl from 1 July,“ Hainer explained to BILD. Andreas Jung, the current Chief Marketing Officer, will leave the board in the summer. According to Hainer, the Munich club hopes to „be able to act even more efficiently and quickly with leaner structures“.
Eberl and sports director Christoph Freund form the new sporting management duo. With their many years of experience in football management, they will set the course for the future. They will be supported by a high-calibre supervisory board, which includes Bayern veterans such as Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Hainer wants to „preserve the club’s identity“
The coming months will not be without challenges for the Munich club. In addition to the search for a successor to outgoing coach Thomas Tuchel, there may also be a major shake-up in the squad. However, Hainer sees the biggest challenge in „remaining competitive at the highest international level, because the financial possibilities of the clubs are much greater, especially in England, but also in Spain and other countries.“
In order to overcome these challenges, Hainer emphasises the need for creativity and vigilance. „At the same time, we have to preserve our identity as a club: Be successful, live our values, always have the fans in focus and maintain our FC Bayern way,“ said the club president. For Hainer, it is crucial that FC Bayern secures its unique position in the football world by maintaining its traditions and values.
