Had Bayern Munich almost lost one of its greatest talents? Mathys Tel was apparently flirting with a move to a Premier League club.
According to BILD, FC Bayern’s Mathys Tel would have been open to a move to the Premier League if Thomas Tuchel had remained head coach of FC Bayern.
There was also a club that Tel could have imagined a move to: Manchester United. However, now that it has been decided that Thomas Tuchel will leave in the summer, the situation has changed again and Tel is likely to stay.
Tuchel’s departure plays into Tel’s hands
In this context in particular, Max Eberl’s statement during his presentation that the club wanted to find and sign talents like Tel is a real eye-opener. Tel had a poor standing under Tuchel. He was always used as a wild card and was sometimes publicly criticised by Tuchel.
Nevertheless, the Frenchman still has 19 Bundesliga appearances to his name. However, he only played 390 minutes, an average of 20 minutes per game. That is probably not enough for a player of his quality and class, which is probably why the idea of Manchester United came up.
The 18-year-old, who is still under contract with FC Bayern until 2027, has contributed three goals and three assists. Will he be able to improve on these figures under the new head coach?
