A top-tier match in the Champions League will take place at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening. FC Bayern will face FC Arsenal; both teams were among the final four in this competition last season.
In the run-up to the match, there were some question marks surrounding the FCB’s lineup. As recently as Tuesday, there were even concerns about head coach Vincent Kompany, who had contracted a persistent viral infection.
“It’s important that he gets some rest. We’re constantly evaluating the situation and will see how he’s doing tomorrow,” assistant coach Aaron Danks explained during yesterday’s press conference when asked about the head coach. As the day went on, however, it became clear that the Belgian would be able to join the team. And that’s exactly what happened: Kompany entered the arena with his team.

Danks also did a formidable job representing Kompany at the press conference in terms of content. He, too, gave no hints about the starting lineup and wouldn’t give anything away.

Ever since the match against Viking Stavanger, it had been clear that Michael Olise would be unable to play due to a suspension. Meanwhile, Joshua Kimmich had to sit out due to a death in the family. Both are key players, and both will need to be replaced. In addition, Manuel Neuer had long been questionable due to a foot injury, but gave the green light after warming up.
It is now clear how the record champions will line up for the match against the English champions.
As hinted at on Wednesday, Manuel Neuer will be in goal. In front of him, Dayot Upamecano and Minjae Kim will play in the center of the defense. Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić are expected to play on the wings. “Expected” because Alphonso Davies will also start. He could play one position further up, on the left side of the attack. That’s because Bayern will also be without Luis Diaz! Up front, of course, is Harry Kane.
