A restless night for FC Bayern in Stavanger: Fireworks were set off in front of the team hotel in the middle of the night—just before the Champions League match.
FC Bayern experienced a restless night ahead of their Champions League away game against Viking Stavanger. Less than 20 hours before kickoff on Tuesday evening, fireworks were set off in the middle of the night outside the Munich team’s hotel.
As reported by Sport BILD, the incident began around 1:15 a.m. outside the Radisson Blu Atlantic in Stavanger. According to the report, fireworks were set off for about two minutes and could be seen in the night sky above the surrounding hotel buildings. The loud bangs were reportedly still clearly audible even at the harbor.
It remains unclear exactly who was behind the incident. However, Sport BILD speculates that supporters of Viking Stavanger may have attempted to disturb the Bayern players’ sleep. According to the report, neither the police nor security personnel responded to the incident.
It remains unclear whether—and how many—FC Bayern players were actually awakened by the nighttime noise. The Munich team is in Stavanger preparing for its second match of the Champions League group stage. Kickoff at Viking Stadium is Tuesday at 9 p.m.
Fireworks outside the hotel are nothing new for Bayern
Bayern had already had a similar experience in January 2025 ahead of their Champions League match against Feyenoord Rotterdam. At that time, the German record champions had even moved their accommodations to the western suburb of Schiedam, yet Feyenoord ultras still set off fireworks outside the team’s lodging at night.
Manuel Neuer later confirmed that the incident had affected the team. “We all heard it; we all woke up,” the Bayern captain said at the time.

Once again, this nighttime incident comes just before a special away match for the Munich team. Due to the artificial turf in Stavanger, FC Bayern had even altered its usual preparation routine and moved its final training session to Norway.
On the field, Bayern doesn’t want to let external circumstances throw them off their game. Following the 2-2 draw at FC Augsburg, they’re looking to secure another victory in the Champions League. Jonas Urbig is expected to start in goal, as Neuer is unavailable due to foot problems.
The hosts, on the other hand, can count on the support of their fans. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether the nighttime fireworks display actually came from the Viking fan base. One thing is certain: it caused additional commotion around the Bayern hotel the night before the game.
