FC Bayern only managed a 2-2 draw at FC Augsburg on Saturday, and Manuel Neuer didn’t have a good day. Just eight seconds into the game, he gave FCA a 1-0 lead with a huge mistake.
Neuer miscontrolled the ball, then chipped it right into the path of Robin Fellhauer, who was running alone toward the goal and was able to score.
Neuer didn’t look too good on the second goal either, deflecting the ball in such a way that Rodrigo Ribeiro was able to tap it in.
Reactions on social media were swift. Bayern fans—as well as fans of other clubs who saw these scenes—were furious.
Neuer’s Blunder: The Internet Is in an Uproar
Users on X were up in arms, convinced that Neuer’s time is now over and that he can no longer be allowed to play in good conscience.
You can’t let Neuer play anymore… unbelievable #FCAFCB

Neuer, it’s time to let go

Quite a few people believe that Neuer is no longer at the top of his game and that Jonas Urbig, the current backup goalkeeper, should therefore be given significantly more playing time right now.
If #Urbig isn’t allowed to play now, then I don’t know what to say. #Neuer is doing everything he can to squander his athletic legacy (even more). Well, maybe he can at least be happy about his new record. #FCAFCB

Manuel Neuer with two blunders…. 😬😬 The era of the five-time World Goalkeeper of the Year is slowly but surely coming to an end. #Bundesliga #FCBayern #FCAFCB

But not everyone placed the blame solely on Neuer. The team’s inability to convert chances and the numerous offside calls also played a role.
Maybe Neuer made at least one blunder today. But when you score three offside goals, the offense has failed, too.

Neuer received a grade of 6 in the FCBinside individual player ratings; here, too, users were very clear in their post-game comments. Johannes Disch wrote: “One of the worst and most disappointing games he’s ever played for us. It hurts to see this former world-class goalkeeper like this.”
Stefan Fraunholz also voiced criticism and called for a change: “Please, please—no more blunders from Neuer… He’s totally done. Let him play for the second team, but please, no more in goal for the first team,” read his post.
