The XXL international break is still in full swing. For the FC Bayern players, it has been a mixed bag so far—both in terms of the physical toll and the results. Dayot Upamecano, for example, received a late yellow-red card in France’s match against Italy.
This happened after a foul on Moise Kean. The Bayern defender will therefore have to sit out France’s fourth match. This is definitely a loss for Zinedine Zidane’s squad, as Upamecano has consistently performed at a very high level for the national team recently.
Bayern Munich will be secretly pleased, as his absence due to the suspension ensures that the player won’t be pushed to his limits again and can thus return to Munich in top form.
France releases Upamecano
The French Football Federation has now made yet another concession to FC Bayern, announcing that the center back is no longer required to train with the national team and is released from duty effective immediately.
“Dayot Upamecano, who is suspended for France’s match against Belgium, will be made available to his club again. He will leave Clairefontaine today (Saturday) at 9:30 a.m.,” read a brief statement from the French Football Federation.
It’s quite possible that the defender will now get a few days to catch his breath before rejoining training with the record champions. For Bayern, the season continues against FC Augsburg following the international break. The Augsburg side has gotten off to a surprisingly strong start to the season and handed Bayern its only Bundesliga loss last season.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany will therefore most likely be able to count on a well-rested Upamecano for that match. Players like Luis Diaz and Alphonso Davies, meanwhile, had the entire international break off and were able to recharge their batteries.
