FC Bayern failed in its attempt to sign Florian Wirtz in 2025. Nevertheless, the national team player is apparently far from being a closed chapter in Munich.
Florian Wirtz and FC Bayern—it actually seemed as though this chapter had come to a definitive close in the summer of 2025. The German national team player decided against a move to Munich and joined Liverpool FC instead.
At the time, the Reds paid 125 million euros to Bayer Leverkusen, thereby outbidding even the German record champions. But the future of Michael Olise, of all people, could make Wirtz an attractive prospect for Munich again at some point.
Sport BILD is now raising this possibility. The backdrop is FC Bayern’s consideration of keeping Olise—who is under contract until 2029—for the long term.
Wirtz as a possible replacement for Olise?
Bayern would like to extend the Frenchman’s contract through 2032. At the same time, sources close to the player reportedly want an exit clause included. If such a clause were indeed part of a new contract, it could exceed the 200 million euro mark, according to the report.
This would provide Bayern with financial protection in the event of Olise’s future departure. Real Madrid and Liverpool FC are reportedly still keeping an eye on the French international.
And this is exactly where Wirtz comes into play. According to Sport BILD, the 23-year-old could become a topic of discussion again at Bayern Munich should Olise be sold at a later date. The national team player has struggled so far since his move to Liverpool.
However, there is currently no talk of any concrete new moves by Bayern regarding Wirtz. Furthermore, the scenario described depends on Olise actually extending his contract, receiving a corresponding buyout clause, and that clause being triggered later on.
Nevertheless, this line of thinking shows that Wirtz does not seem to have completely disappeared from the discussions surrounding FC Bayern’s long-term roster planning.
