Jan-Christian Dreesen has just extended his contract with FC Bayern through 2029. A special clause could even extend his stay even further.
FC Bayern’s leadership has recently set an important course for the coming years. Both CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and sporting director Max Eberl extended their contracts early through 2029. In Dreesen’s case, however, there is now an interesting detail.
As reported by the tz, the 59-year-old’s new contract contains a special clause. According to this clause, Dreesen has the option to unilaterally extend his contract by another year. If the Bayern boss exercises this option, he could remain CEO of Germany’s record champion through 2030.
Dreesen took over the position in May 2023. Prior to that, he had already worked for the Munich-based club for many years, serving, among other roles, as the club’s chief financial officer.

What is particularly noteworthy about the agreement is that, according to the report, the decision regarding the additional contract year rests with Dreesen himself. While FC Bayern is already committing to long-term continuity with the extension through 2029, the CEO could independently extend his tenure at the helm until 2030.
Dreesen apparently enjoys a high level of trust within the supervisory board. The former banker is regarded internally as a strong communicator and is jointly responsible not only for the club’s financial interests but also for the substantial investments in the sports division.
At the same time, discussions are already underway in Munich about who might one day succeed Dreesen. According to tz, a potential candidate may already be on the club’s own executive board: Chief Marketing Officer Rouven Kasper.
Since taking office, the 44-year-old has secured several key partnerships and is regarded within the club as a successful dealmaker. Kasper is also said to be well-liked by the team. Whether he will actually rise to the top of the executive board, however, remains entirely up in the air at this point.
For now, FC Bayern has long-term planning certainty with Dreesen. Thanks to a special clause, his term could even last one year longer than has been officially announced so far.
