Harry Kane has every reason to hope for one of the most prestigious individual awards in world soccer. After an outstanding season, the Bayern Munich forward is among the top contenders for the Ballon d’Or. The Englishman himself, however, is surprisingly calm about his status as a favorite.
For Kane, it’s clear that he’s long since done his part. It’s now up to others to decide what his performances are ultimately worth in the voting. “Of course, it’s no longer in my hands, but up to the voters and the decision-makers,” Kane told TNT Sports.
Regardless of the outcome of the vote, the forward looks back on the past few months with great satisfaction. “My season was by far my best, and we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Kane has every reason to be satisfied with his season. The Bayern star once again proved himself as a goal-scorer and celebrated major successes with the German record champions. He scored a total of 73 goals for Bayern and the English national team throughout the season.
Kane is already thinking about next season
While fans and experts debate who deserves the Ballon d’Or, Kane has long since turned his thoughts back to the next challenges.
“It’s a strange situation because I’m already focusing on this season and the next one. Can I be better? Can I improve?” explained the Bayern pro.
This attitude shows that, despite his extraordinary statistics, Kane is far from seeing himself as having reached the end of his development. At the same time, however, he also wants to take the time to properly assess his achievements so far.
“But I also want to appreciate what I’ve achieved,” the Englishman emphasized.
Given his performances, it’s no surprise that Kane is among the favorites for the Ballon d’Or. At the same time, the striker knows that an individual award of this magnitude isn’t awarded based solely on statistics.
“That’s what makes soccer so special.”
„The problem with opinions in soccer is: There are so many opinions, so many arguments in favor of different players,“ Kane explained.
In his view, every fan and every voter has different ideas about what qualities make an outstanding soccer player.
“People love one player because he’s fast, another because he has a great understanding of the game, and yet another because he’s a fantastic finisher,” the Bayern star elaborated.
For Kane, it’s precisely these differing perspectives that are part of what makes soccer great. “I think that’s exactly what makes soccer so special—all these debates—and the Ballon d’Or is definitely part of that,” said the 32-year-old.
Regardless of whether he ultimately wins the prestigious award, Kane is already thrilled just to be among the nominees. “I’m happy to be nominated, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
