Today, Saturday, FC Bayern is playing against RB Leipzig in the Telekom Cup. Several stars were on the field from the start, including Konrad Laimer, who recently extended his contract in Munich.
But the Austrian wasn’t able to stay in the game for long. Early in the match, a tackle left Laimer with an injury to his thigh and knee.
With a pained expression on his face, the Austrian initially limped off the field. He briefly tried to continue playing but then signaled that it wasn’t possible. He first received treatment, and then the decision to substitute him was made fairly quickly.
Is FC Bayern facing a Laimer absence?
The tackle didn’t look particularly bad, but he was struck by his opponent’s knee. Laimer was supported by a team staff member and taken directly from the field to the locker room. The Austrian could barely put weight on his leg and shook his head.
Sacha Boey, who is still allowed to leave the record champions, came on as a substitute for him. So he had the chance to prove himself.
Of course, there is no diagnosis for Laimer yet. Based on the tackle, the record champions are likely hoping that it’s just a painful bruise or a contusion. In that case, the substitution would have been a precautionary measure, and a long layoff isn’t to be feared.
Nevertheless, the Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund is just a week away. Even with a bruise requiring a few days off from training, that could be cutting it close. Before an official diagnosis is announced, several tests will likely need to be conducted first.
It’s possible that an initial assessment of the Austrian player’s condition will be announced after the game. Even a minor injury, however, would be far from ideal, as Laimer would still have to take a break from training—which always represents a setback during preseason.
