Following the World Cup and the subsequent tour of Asia, FC Bayern’s focus is now firmly on the start of the season. Despite the intense summer, Konrad Laimer says he’s ready for the challenges ahead. The Austrian is convinced that if the team reaches its full potential, it can beat any opponent.
For many Bayern stars, the summer was anything but relaxing. A long season was followed by the World Cup, and after a shortened vacation, preseason training with the German record champions began right away.
Laimer, however, doesn’t see this as a problem. The 29-year-old feels ready to give it his all again.
“It’s the same as always: It’s fun, and it’s just part of the deal these days to have the occasional commitment off the field,” Laimer explained in an interview with the tz. The Austrian also emphasized: “I had a long enough vacation, so now it’s really fun again to be out on the field with the guys.”
Laimer sees room for improvement at Bayern
Despite the positive preseason and the successful conclusion of the Asian tour against Aston Villa, Laimer doesn’t believe the Munich team is yet at its peak performance level. “You can always improve. First, we need to get our fitness back after the break,” the Austrian national team player clarified.
Physical condition, in particular, is likely to play a key role in the coming days. Several World Cup participants joined preseason training late and need to be gradually brought up to full workload.
At the same time, other players—including Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Ismael Saibari—are returning from injuries. Vincent Kompany should therefore soon have significantly more options at his disposal.
“We can beat any opponent”
Laimer is looking ahead to the new season with confidence. Once the team reaches peak form, he believes Bayern can achieve anything. “When we’re at 100 percent, we have to stick to our game plan—then we know we can beat any opponent,” emphasized the 29-year-old.
This statement aligns with Munich’s ambitious goals. After winning the double last season, the team aims to take the next step, particularly in the Champions League.
Until then, however, there is still work to be done. The upcoming friendly matches will be used to further improve fitness and team chemistry. By the time of their first title showdown against Borussia Dortmund at the latest, Bayern will have to show just how close they’ve come to the 100 percent Laimer is demanding.
