FC Bayern has suffered yet another injury-related setback—this time affecting one of the promising young talents from the Campus. As the record champions have now officially confirmed, goalkeeper Leonard Prescott will be sidelined for several months.
The young goalkeeper was originally slated to start in FC Bayern’s amateur team’s match against Legia Warsaw last weekend but had to pull out at the last minute. Prescott felt discomfort as early as the warm-up and was ultimately unable to play in the match. At first, it remained unclear just how serious the injury actually was.
In the meantime, Prescott himself caused a stir. The 16-year-old posted a photo from the hospital on Instagram. Although Prescott did not provide specific details about the injury or the procedure, there were strong indications that the young player had to undergo surgery.
An important step in his development comes to an abrupt halt
Now the truth is out—and the news is likely to be anything but welcome to the club’s leadership at Säbener Straße. As FC Bayern announced, Prescott has suffered a meniscus injury in his knee and will be out for months. This means the young goalkeeper is forced to take an extended break for the time being.
For Prescott, the injury comes at the worst possible time. The goalkeeper had recently been regarded as one of the most exciting talents in FC Bayern’s youth system and had been increasingly making a name for himself.
Last season, Prescott was already part of the record champion’s Champions League roster. When Manuel Neuer and Leon Klanac were sidelined by injury, the young goalkeeper made his first appearance on the roster in the first leg of the round of 16 against Atalanta Bergamo.
Due to the serious injury and the resulting time off, Prescott’s development will now be significantly set back.
