The loan to Celta Vigo was supposed to help the 24-year-old get back on track after his difficult time in Munich, but the hoped-for breakthrough failed to materialize. Although Zaragoza played 19 competitive matches for the Galicians, he was often only used as a wild card and only scored two goals in around 1,100 minutes of action
Despite his mixed record, the Spaniard surprisingly decided to move to AS Roma in the winter. Looking back, he now seems to regret this move
As the Spanish portal Nos Diario reports, Zaragoza is said to have admitted to those close to him that his premature departure from Vigo was a mistake. Even if not everything went according to plan, in hindsight he should have stayed at Celta
The decision actually proved to be less successful in sporting terms, with the attacking player receiving even less playing time in Rome than previously in Spain and playing hardly any role in the club’s plans of late
Bayern plans without Zaragoza
The situation at FC Bayern seems to be clear anyway. According to information from the record champions, Zaragoza is not one of the players with whom Vincent Kompany has long-term plans
The club’s sporting director Max Eberl is therefore faced with the task of finding a permanent solution in the summer. Munich’s aim is still to sell the winger as permanently as possible and get him off the payroll
The player’s wish is still to return to Celta Vigo, although the Spaniards are currently showing restraint. According to the report, a much cheaper loan solution would be conceivable at best
However, this does not fit in with FC Bayern’s ideas. The Munich club would prefer a sale and hope to recoup at least part of their investment. The record champions once paid around 15 million euros for Zaragoza
Spain remains the most likely option
Despite the complicated initial situation, a transfer within Spain remains the most likely scenario, although no concrete offers have yet been made
For Zaragoza, this marks the start of a landmark summer. After two disappointing loan spells, the Spaniard must now find a club where he can play regularly again. At FC Bayern, on the other hand, his future seems to have already been decided.
