At FC Bayern, preparations for the Champions League second leg against Paris Saint-Germain are in full swing. In addition to tactics and mentality, a possible penalty shoot-out also plays a role – and the Munich team is apparently well prepared for this
According to the BILD report, coach Vincent Kompany has been training his team specifically for penalty kicks for months, meaning that this scenario is by no means a short-term focus, but an integral part of the training work
At the pre-match press conference, the Bayern coach confirmed this approach and explained: „We then decide who will take the penalties. But this is always done in consultation with the players.“
Kompany made it clear that this is not a spontaneous measure: „We didn’t discuss it this week, it’s been a topic for three months, even before the cup games. It’s been part of every training session for weeks. It’s not spontaneous, it’s practised – just like all our procedures. But it’s still soccer – there’s no guarantee.“
This preparation could be particularly crucial in the clash with PSG. After the spectacular 4:5 in the first leg, anything is possible in the second leg – including extra time and a penalty shoot-out
Atmosphere should be an additional factor
In addition to the sporting preparation, Bayern are also banking on the home advantage. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen appealed to the fans: „We need every vote on Wednesday. We need 100 per cent Mia san Mia, the full cohesion of our Bayern family and, if possible, everyone in red.“
Jonathan Tah also emphasized the importance of the atmosphere: „What I feel most is this special atmosphere. Everyone was even more present against Real. There is an extreme push, you can’t underestimate that when the whole stadium is behind us.“
One thing is clear: FC Bayern want to leave nothing to chance against PSG – and already have a clear plan for the possible showdown from the spot.
